Howling’ Halloween Blog Hop – Festive Corners

Oct 1, 2020 | All Occasions, Card Ideas

Welcome to the Crafty Bloggers hop. I am part of an amazing group of demonstrators from all around the world. Each month we will be showcasing some of the wonderful products which can found in our suite of catalogues. This month it’s Halloween and boy was straight to my new Festive Corners Stamp set for this theme.

I was spoilt for choice for this theme. With so many stamp sets a to pick from I decided to play with the adaptable Festive Corners & Banner Year stamp sets to see what I came up with:

First I started with a colour selection that I thought would be fun to work with:

The Misty Moonlight and Poppy Parade were sitting on my desk after our recent TNT retreat and I mixed them up with a couple of brighter colours and a neutral to provide some contrast.

Festive corners – Spooky Haunted House Card

So, for my first card, I pulled out some Basic Black card stock created a card base. I heat embossed the super cute spiders web corner using White Embossing powder. To add a little extra detail I added the little spider so it dangles from the web. Cute eh?

The wonderful word corners really do frame the image perfectly. Once again I embossed in white. This really makes the words stand out on the black background.

For the central image I took a piece of Whisper White card stock and using daubers I added my ink palette to add a soft, but spooky back found. I then added some Memento Black Ink around the edges to create a smoky/foggy effect. Using the Memento Black Ink again I stamped the bat and the Spooky words.

Next I Stamped and coloured one of the houses from the Coming Home Stamp set, which is part of the Trimming the Town Suite using the coordinating Stampin’ Blends. I love the fact that our stamps sets are so adaptable and make all year card making so easy. You can see another easy project using this wonderful Suits here.

Once finished I fussy cut out the house so there was no edge to the image (But you could use the coordinating dies, which would save you time). Do you think it looks like a haunted house?

Finally I mounted the sponged background and the house to the base card using dimensionals.

Measurements

  • Base: Basic Black – 29.7 cm by 10.5 cm scored at 14.9 cm
  • Matt: Whisper White – 10.0 cm by 5.5 cm
  • House : Whisper White Scrap – 7.0 cm by 4.0 cm
  • Inside card: Whisper White – 14.3 cm by 10.0 cm

Festive Corners – Spooky House in the Woods

I decided I wanted to make another card, but this time slightly change up the layout and step it up a little so you can see how a few slight changes ca really change you card.

This time I moved the embossed corner words and spiders web a little further out so rather than nestling against and under the image they framed it.

For the central image I went for a far more colourful background, building up the layers with far more of the ink. Rather than add the smoky uneven edge to the image I slowly built up the Soft Suede around the sides to create much more of a vignette effect. I also added a couple of extra stamped spiders webs in Black Memento Ink for extra impact. The brighter colour scheme really helps to make those black images really pop.

Finally I chose a different house and this time I created more of a spooky old timber house. Maybe one that you might find in the middle of a wood all covered in spiders webs and wrapped in fear!! But with the lights on who might be home? BOO!

Don’t forget the inside!

For the inside the cards I just kept the stamping simple.

Simple black Ink onto a piece of Whisper White bringing some of the same images from the front of your card to provide some continuity. I lightly sponged around the edges as well to continue the same effect as the from of the card.

Voila!

I had great fun making these cards and I would love to know what you think? Please do leave me a comment.
